1. There was a real King Macbeth
There was a real King Macbeth. He killed King Duncan in battle in 1040 near Elgin. King Macbeth ruled Scotland for 17 years and made a pilgrimage to Rome in 1050. Under his rule, Scotland was very peaceful and he was described as a liberal king. He was succeeded by his stepson Lulach the idiot. Lulach did not reign long and was himself succeeded by Duncan’s son Malcom.
