EDEXCEL iGCSE Literature – Big Ideas | Mrs P

These are two sheets which help you to focus on writer’s craft and to navigate your way round the ‘big ideas’ in Of Mice and Men and A View from the Bridge.

Remember that you need to have a clear statement of ‘why’ the writer is doing whatever they are doing in the text.

For example:

Steinbeck uses the character of Candy in order to explore the poverty and suffering endemic in working communities during the Great Depression.

Miller uses the relationship between Eddie and Catherine to explore hidden desires and the lengths to which desperation can drive a man.
