For the last couple of years I’ve shown the BBC version of Great Expectations to KS4 classes as an extra-curricular opportunity to view something they otherwise wouldn’t have watched. And they loved it.
When the opportunity came to choose my own 19th century text (previously we had been directed to specific books), i desperately wanted to teach Great Expectations. I knew that my class would love it. But i also knew it is a huge book, five times longer than Jekyll & Hyde, for instance. Afraid of getting a bit stale, i decided to take on the challenge and i’m really glad i did.
